I disliked the image that came with the Friends Blog, not because of the subject, rather because it had nothing to do with the Apostle Islands.
A number of readers had the same opinion.
So the search began, and way too much time was invested in it.
The usual images of islands and lighthouses just didn’t “work” for some reason. They seemed to say too much. And offered small fodder for the imagination.
Finally what I sought was found in a small section of a photo taken in 2006 on the shore of Michigan Island, not far from the dock.
The “right” image, one worth considerably more than a thousand words, had been in my face throughout the search, serving “wallpaper” on my computer!
Sure, it is just a collection of rocks, gathered for a fleeting moment in a shallow basin, washed to a sparkle by a Lake Superior wave.
Nothing more than the foundation of the Apostle Islands . . .
